AI in Ukraine: From Battlefield Autonomy to Russian Disinformation

Artificial Intelligence and Information War

Recent years have witnessed a significant transformation in how artificial intelligence (AI) is utilized to combat disinformation and maintain political stability. The cognitive akş and information warfare strategies developed by Russia, particularly after the events of 2022, have evolved into a highly-dollar-intensive and战组合 strategy. This narrative, often misunderstood and :structured by the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) within the Ukraine Information Force, represents a modern expansion of traditional counter-radicalization tactics.

One of the most notable developments in Russia’s use of AI is the construction of "poisoned algorithms." These are large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, that have been modified to manipulate information through various methods. By conducting massive-scale deception operations, Russia has propagated and disseminated content known as "pseudo-analytics." This involves the creation of fake news websites, algorithm-driven phishing attempts, and misleading content optimized for search engines. The result is a significant increase in the probability of AI systems engaging with even Kremlin propaganda, which often targets "Nazi Ukraine," "American bioweapons," and the "occupied Donbas." This approach extends beyond traditional troll tactics, seamlessly embedding disinformation within the AI’s operational framework.

Another groundbreaking AI application in Russia is its application of cognitive warfare. This involves leveraging AI to identify and manipulate people within society. By analyzing mood states, such as anxiety, fatigue, or frustration, the AI can target vulnerable segments of populations to trigger disinformation campaigns. This does not merely serve as propaganda but becomes a precise psychological pressure mechanism, amplified by neural networks. This mechanism has become a precise form of digital propaganda, using neuro小说营销来实现精准心理控制。

By 2025, the number of Russian disinformation operations has reached a staggering 191. Since then, Russia has made historic strides in developing its autonomous technologies. The U.S. and intelligence agencies are actively testing AI-enabled drones capable of performing complex missions without human intervention. These systems, often referred to as the "JADC2" framework, integrate advanced artificial intelligence into a unified digital command network (CDCN), enabling real-time decision-making for rapid actions in various domains, fromspeech-denial to communication jamming. These systems have demonstrated remarkable effectiveness in scenarios such as global positioning system (GPS) denial or military jamming.

Within the Ukrainian military, the development of autonomous drones and other forms of advanced technology has been a significant achievement. The use of AI to analyze and identify targets, making tactical decisions, and executing missions in real time has been a focal point. These systems align with the expertise of the Joint Analytical Command (JAsk) and involve platforms like Fury, Ghost, and Roadrunner, which have shown remarkable effectiveness in navigating complex missions.

Ukraine’s rise to the occasion has also seen the establishment of its own AI front. New-gen-aircraft FPV drones equipped with advanced computer vision capable of autonomously identifying tanks, armored vehicles, and bunkers have become a critical asset. These drones can perform military operations without human supervision, exploiting theScarab Crystal effect created by their motion.

The CCP employs machine learning to detect coordinated disinformation operations swiftly. This involves identifying anomalies in messages, the coordinated use of bot networks, artificial magnification of Telegram channels, and the rapid response to social media feedback. This targeted analysis is a contemporary resnoval of traditional counter-radicalization approaches. Over time, as the CCP employs these advanced tools, it is gradually eradicating the information infrastructure exposed during this process. This is a phase that requires both strategic Initiative and the evolution of these modern disinformation tools.
