Nevada County Clarifies Information Regarding Hope Ridge House

Truckee Addresses Homelessness with Hope Ridge House Initiative

TRUCKEE, Calif. – Nevada County is taking proactive steps to address homelessness in Truckee with the proposed Hope Ridge House, a permanent supportive housing project aimed at providing stability and resources for individuals at risk of or experiencing homelessness. The project, currently under consideration for grant funding, has been the subject of recent misinformation circulating on social media. County officials have clarified that the proposed facility is not a homeless shelter, transitional housing, substance use treatment center, warming shelter, or halfway house. Instead, it is envisioned as a long-term housing solution for those with ties to the Truckee community, offering a pathway towards self-sufficiency.

Hope Ridge House, located at 12255 Sierra Drive, is currently leased by the County and operated by AMI Housing (AMIH), ensuring compliance with residential zoning regulations. The initiative seeks to fill a critical gap in local services identified by Truckee’s recent Point-in-Time Count, which revealed approximately 30 individuals experiencing homelessness in the area. Unlike western Nevada County, which has 18 housing sites serving 221 residents, Truckee currently lacks permanent supportive housing options. Hope Ridge House aims to rectify this disparity by implementing a model proven effective in communities nationwide.

The project’s core principle is to provide residents with a stable and supportive environment conducive to personal growth and community reintegration. Residents will sign leases, pay rent, and participate in case management services tailored to their individual needs. These services include life skills coaching, mental health support, and employment assistance, equipping residents with the tools necessary to achieve long-term stability. A live-in house manager and on-site case manager will provide ongoing support and ensure a safe and structured living environment. Furthermore, strict eligibility criteria prohibit violent felons, arsonists, and sexual offenders from residing at Hope Ridge House, prioritizing the safety and well-being of all residents and the surrounding community.

Addressing community concerns and ensuring transparency are key priorities for Nevada County. Contrary to some circulating narratives, Hope Ridge House is designed to integrate seamlessly into the existing residential neighborhood. The project adheres to all residential zoning regulations and prioritizes the safety and security of both residents and neighbors. To foster open communication and address any questions or concerns, the County will host a neighborhood forum in February. This forum will provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about the project, engage with County officials, and contribute to the development of the operational plan.

The County emphasizes that Hope Ridge House is not a temporary shelter but a long-term housing solution specifically designed for individuals with established ties to Truckee. This focus on community integration aims to provide residents with a sense of belonging and support as they work towards self-sufficiency. The project seeks to empower individuals to rebuild their lives, contribute to the community, and transition out of homelessness permanently. By providing stable housing, comprehensive support services, and a structured living environment, Hope Ridge House aims to break the cycle of homelessness and foster lasting positive change in the lives of its residents.

Nevada County is committed to a collaborative approach, actively seeking community input as it develops the operational plan for Hope Ridge House. The County believes that open communication and community engagement are crucial for the project’s success. Residents are encouraged to visit the Hope Ridge House project page or contact Nevada County Health and Human Services at 530-807-7792 for more information. The County is confident that Hope Ridge House will be a valuable asset to the Truckee community, providing much-needed support and resources for individuals striving to overcome homelessness and achieve long-term stability.
