FactCheck Africa Partners Meta’s Language Technology to Fight War Against Misinformation in Africa

As part of a comprehensive effort to challenge misinformation and Empower Africans with the tools they need to discern fact from fiction in this digital age, MyAIFactChecker, the cutting-edge AI-driven fact-checking platform developed by FactCheck Africa, has entered a new partnership with Meta Language Technology. This innovative collaboration is a testament to the organization’s commitment to fostering an informed and literate society.

The founder of FactCheck Africa, Mr. Abideen Olasupo, the dedicated leader of the movement, recently announced this partnership, declaring that it was ” aimed at advancing open-source language technologies.” He emphasized that this initiative is part of an ongoing journey to empower Africans and bridge the gap between the language and the world. Olasupo described Meta Language Technology as a force of innovation that could aidMyAIFactChecker in conducting more effective outreach in global affairs.

According to Mr. Olasupo, the Meta Language Technology Partner Program is designed to support organizations developing and deploying language tools aimed at enhancing content moderation, fact-checking, and access to reliable information, particularly for underserved and low-resource languages. He stressed that this program would help Meta increase its “open-source” endeavors and model best practices for the global community. Olasupoczuka noted that this partnership would provide MyAIFactChecker with an array of linguistic resources, including several hours of speech recordings and a wide variety of written text, culminating in large corpora that can be used by language models to understand the nuances of a country’s language.

Mr. Olasupo highlighted the significance of this combined effort as a “milestone moment,” celebrating the continent’s diversity and complexity in languages and cultures. He reaffirmed that MyAIFactChecker’s mission aligns with the continent’s need to counter misinformation and build trust across borders. Olasupo Lambert made an additional note, stating that this agreement is a bold contemporary step by MyAIFactChecker to break down linguistic disparities and disseminate more accurate and inclusive information to our fellow members.

As MyAIFactChecker embarks on this new chapter, Olasupo Commended the partnership with Meta Language Technology, acknowledging the program’s potential to enhance their capabilities and popularize facts in African languages. He pointed out that this collaboration not only strengthens FactCheckAfrica’s technical skills but also collectively strengthens the media literacy, critical thinking, and truth-telling in the region. Olasupo commended Meta for its role in fostering collaboration and for encouraging MyAIFactChecker to explore the realm of fact-checking, fact-finding, and fact-discovery.

In closing, Olasupo Lambert underscored the importance of embracing high-tech solutions and collaborative efforts in addressing multifaceted issues, such as disinformation and misinformation.
