Fabricated Online Publication “Telangana News Today Daily” Disseminates Misinformation

Fake News Outlet "Telangana News Today Daily" Spreads Disinformation in Telangana

A wave of fabricated news clippings attributed to a non-existent news outlet, "Telangana News Today Daily," has flooded social media platforms, spreading misinformation about political figures and current events in Telangana. The fabricated clippings mimic the format of legitimate news outlets, complete with headlines, key points, a logo, date, and a website link. However, investigations reveal that the website and the outlet itself are entirely fictitious.

The fraudulent news outlet employs a distinctive logo featuring a yellow and orange owl, reminiscent of the "Readwhere" digital newsstand platform. Despite this visual association, "Telangana News Today Daily" is not listed on Readwhere, nor can it be found through any online searches. Domain registration checks and searches of the Registrar of Newspapers for India confirm the outlet’s non-existence. The website links provided on the clippings lead to dead ends, further exposing the fabricated nature of the content.

The misinformation campaign orchestrated through these fake clippings targets prominent political figures, including former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his son, BRS working president KT Rama Rao. One fabricated story alleges a conspiracy by the Kalvakuntla family to silence a former DCP, while another falsely claims KTR instructed party members to incite chaos if he were arrested. These claims, lacking any basis in reality, aim to sow discord and manipulate public perception.

Furthering the spread of disinformation, a fabricated clipping falsely attributes a statement to social media influencer Divvala Madhuri, claiming she described KTR as a good friend. Madhuri has publicly refuted this claim, asserting she has never met KTR and has no connection to Telangana politics. Another fake news item attempts to link KTR to the Sandhya Theater stampede case involving actor Allu Arjun, falsely quoting him as downplaying the tragedy. KTR’s official statements on the incident contradict this fabricated narrative.

Another instance of fabricated news involves actor Rocking Rakesh, with a fake clipping claiming he received funding from KCR for a biopic. Rakesh has vehemently denied these claims, exposing the fabricated nature of the interview and highlighting the lengths to which the misinformation campaign will go to create sensationalized and untrue narratives.

The proliferation of these fabricated news clippings underscores the growing threat of misinformation in the digital age. The use of a fictitious news outlet lends an air of credibility to the false narratives, making them more likely to be shared and believed. This sophisticated disinformation campaign highlights the need for increased media literacy and critical evaluation of information encountered online. The incident serves as a stark reminder to verify information from reputable sources before accepting and sharing it. Failure to do so contributes to the spread of misinformation and can have serious consequences for individuals and society as a whole. The fabricated nature of "Telangana News Today Daily" and its associated news clippings serves as a cautionary tale in the fight against fake news.
