Correcting Misinformation, Bay Community Centre

There has been a fair bit of uncertainty buzzing around our local community lately regarding the future of the Batemans Bay Community Centre. It is entirely understandable that people want clarity when it comes to a space that holds so much value for our neighborhood. We want to take a moment to clear the air, address those rumors directly, and share exactly where the Council stands. Our goal is to ensure that everyone feels heard, informed, and confident that this hub is being handled with the care and attention it deserves to serve you properly.

To put it plainly: the Council is fully committed to reopening the Batemans Bay Community Centre for public use. During our meeting on May 28, 2026, the Council officially passed a resolution to move this project forward. While we are still in the process of finalizing the financial side of things—specifically looking at how to best allocate funds—the decision to revive the space is settled. We are currently working toward a follow-up report for the September Council meeting, which will outline the path forward for operational costs and long-term sustainability.

We aren’t just talking about opening the doors; we are actively doing the work to make sure the building is ready for you. Right now, our teams are busy with the essential “heavy lifting”—cleaning, garden maintenance, and general repairs to ensure the facility is safe, welcoming, and functional. We want the space to be comfortable from the moment the first group walks through the door, so we are being thorough with these initial updates. It’s a bit of a process, but it’s a necessary one to ensure your community centre is in top shape.

Beyond the physical repairs, we believe the most important part of this reopening is you. We are currently inviting feedback on our proposed fees and charges, and we truly want to hear your thoughts. To help us build a schedule that works for everyone, we have launched an “Expression of Interest” process. If your local group, club, or organization has been longing for a home base, please tell us! Knowing who plans to use the space, when, and what specific amenities you require will go a long way in helping us tailor the facility to meet actual community needs rather than just making guesses.

We don’t want you to just take our word for it—we want you to see it for yourself. We are hosting an Open Day at the centre on August 12, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. This is the perfect chance to walk through the rooms, get a feel for the layout, and envision how your group might utilize the space. Whether you’re curious about the size of the meeting rooms or just want to see the progress of the maintenance, our doors will be open. We encourage you to come by, ask questions, and share your vision for the centre’s future.

Ultimately, this facility is a reflection of the community it serves, and we are excited to work alongside you to bring it back to life. Whether you choose to fill out the online form on the Council website, send in an Expression of Interest, or simply stop by for a chat during our Open Day, your input is the key to our success. We are moving forward with transparency and purpose, and we look forward to seeing the Batemans Bay Community Centre buzzing with activity once again in the very near future.
