TVK unable to break DMK, hence levelling false charges: Udhayanidhi | Chennai News

The political climate in Tamil Nadu has reached a fever pitch, marked by a sharp, gloves-off verbal duel between the ruling DMK and the rising challenger, Thalapathy Vijay’s Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). During a recent public event in Chennai, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin launched a scathing attack on the newly formed party, characterized by a mix of mockery and strategic posturing. Udhayanidhi’s primary target was the political narrative being spun by TVK, which he dismissed as a byproduct of sheer frustration. According to the DMK leader, TVK is lashing out with unfounded corruption allegations simply because they have failed to achieve their primary goal: fracturing the DMK in the same way they have successfully splintered the AIADMK. Udhayanidhi framed these accusations as the desperate cries of a political entity that finds itself unable to crack the robust, well-established organizational fortress of the current ruling party.

One of the more stinging segments of Udhayanidhi’s speech involved a direct dig at actor-turned-politician Vijay. Recalling Vijay’s earlier, high-stakes declarations that he would prioritize rooting out corruption and ensuring that “no corrupt individual goes scot-free,” Udhayanidhi turned the sentiment on its head. With a cutting, sarcastic inflection, he suggested that the public misunderstood Vijay’s original intent. He quipped that perhaps the actor didn’t mean that the corrupt would be brought to justice or jailed; rather, he meant that he would ensure they didn’t go anywhere else—by bringing them under the fold of the TVK. By painting the TVK as a sanctuary for political turncoats, Udhayanidhi sought to undermine the ethical “outsider” persona that Vijay has been cultivating since his transition from cinema to active politics.

Beyond the jabs at leadership, Udhayanidhi addressed the specific, provocative rumors circulating on social media: the claim that the DMK is currently attempting to lure and “buy” TVK’s elected members through financial or political incentives. Dismissing this with a air of dismissiveness, he questioned the very premise of the allegation. He rhetorically asked why the DMK would bother attempting to entice members of a party that he ostensibly views as irrelevant to their own power structure. With a bluntness that characterizes his speaking style, he remarked that the DMK hardly knows who these individuals are in the first place, suggesting that TVK’s obsession with the ruling party is a one-way street, while his own government remains focused on its mandate rather than poaching inexperienced legislators.

In a rare moment of candid retrospective analysis, Udhayanidhi shared insights into the DMK’s electoral strategy and where he believes they missed the mark. He acknowledged that, historically, the party viewed the AIADMK as their “true” and only significant adversary during recent assembly cycles. While he boastfully declared that the DMK successfully achieved their objective by dismantling that specific opposition force, he admitted that they were blindsided by the emergence of a new, different kind of threat in the form of TVK. He cautioned his supporters that this oversight would not be repeated, signaling that the DMK is now pivoting to treat TVK as the primary challenger. This shift in perspective underscores the growing acknowledgment among political analysts that the traditional DMK-AIADMK rivalry is being fundamentally altered by the inclusion of Vijay’s party on the board.

The discourse turned increasingly personal when Udhayanidhi revisited the departures of his former political allies. He didn’t hold back, accusing those who switched sides of being motivated by petty personal benefits, metaphorically referring to them as having traded their loyalty for a “sofa”—implying a comfortable position or a seat of power within the TVK hierarchy. He mocked these former friends, suggesting they are terrified of criticizing their new masters for fear of having those perks snatched away. However, he struck a more inclusive tone regarding the Muslim community, affirming their continued allegiance to the DMK and positioning his party as the true protector of the state’s pluralistic identity. The visual optics of the event were equally significant, as Udhayanidhi shared the stage with NTK chief coordinator Seeman, a move that suggests the DMK is looking to consolidate its support base and keep all potential fringe players close to maintain their political dominance.

Predictably, the TVK did not sit idly by, with their IT wing firing a blistering rebuttal that shifted the history of the state’s politics into the spotlight. Their statement pivoted away from the current mudslinging and instead attacked the foundational legacy of the DMK itself. By referencing the era following C.N. Annadurai and the eventual split involving M.G. Ramachandran, they framed the DMK as a history of dynastic consolidation that has proved to be the ultimate “political disaster” for Tamil Nadu. By labeling the DMK’s control as an internal takeover rather than a democratic governance model, TVK is clearly trying to appeal to voters who are tired of the old guard. As these two camps continue to trade blows, it has become evident that the battle is no longer just about policy or corruption; it is a war for the soul of Tamil Nadu’s political future, defined by shifting loyalties, biting sarcasm, and the struggle to own the historical narrative.
