Marion County Ranch Manager Accused of Horrific Animal Neglect

WHITWELL, Tenn. – A picturesque ranch in Whitwell, once a trusted haven for boarded horses, has become the center of a disturbing animal cruelty investigation. Ivy Linder, a manager at Lakota Ranch, is facing charges of cruelty to animals and filing false reports after authorities discovered the skeletal remains of a neglected dog on the property. The investigation has unearthed allegations of severe neglect, with witnesses describing emaciated dogs deprived of food and water, raising concerns about the welfare of other animals under Linder’s care.

The shocking discovery unfolded on October 15th when the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) responded to an animal abuse complaint at Lakota Ranch. Deputies were met with a gruesome scene: the skeletal remains of a dog, surrounded by flies, lying in a barn. This contradicted Linder’s initial claim to deputies that there were no dogs on the property, a statement that ultimately led to the false report charge. The horrifying image of the deceased animal, documented in the incident report, paints a stark picture of prolonged neglect.

Interviews with individuals familiar with the ranch revealed a pattern of neglect. Theresa Kindred, whose granddaughter boarded a horse at Lakota, recounted regular visits to the ranch. She initially observed two German Shepherds housed in a horse stall but gradually stopped seeing them. Later, her daughter shared disturbing photos of emaciated dogs, raising grave concerns about their welfare. Another witness, Kelsey Condra, a former boarder at Lakota Ranch, expressed shock and disbelief at the conditions. Both witnesses also reported seeing several underfed cats on the property, further fueling concerns about the extent of the neglect.

Initially, Linder attempted to deflect responsibility, falsely attributing ownership of the deceased dogs to Condra. However, the investigation revealed that Linder had taken in the German Shepherds from their previous owner who was unable to keep them. This revelation further solidified the accusations against Linder, highlighting not only the neglect itself but also the attempt to mislead authorities.

The incident report details the deplorable state of the deceased dog, clearly indicating a prolonged period of neglect. The animal’s emaciated condition and the presence of flies underscore the severity of the situation and the suffering the animal endured. The contrast between the idyllic setting of the ranch and the horrific discovery within its barns has shocked the community, tarnishing the ranch’s image as a place of care for animals.

The MCSO has issued a criminal summons to Linder who has ten days to turn herself in. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the full extent of the neglect and whether other animals at the ranch were similarly mistreated. The case has sparked outrage and concern within the community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and reporting suspected animal abuse. The fate of the surviving animals at Lakota Ranch remains uncertain, pending the outcome of the investigation. The allegations against Linder serve as a stark reminder of the responsibility we have to protect vulnerable animals and ensure their humane treatment.
