Jared Leto Denies Criminal Sexual Conduct: ‘Claims Are False’

The landscape of Hollywood has long been shadowed by stories of power, privilege, and the systemic abuse that can thrive behind the velvet ropes of fame. Recently, these whispers have coalesced into a harrowing narrative surrounding Oscar-winning actor and musician Jared Leto. In a new BBC documentary titled Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Darkest Secret, the industry is currently grappling with a series of grave allegations that paint a disturbing portrait of the star’s personal history. The documentary, released this past Wednesday, provides a platform for ten different women to share their accounts, breaking a silence that many have maintained for years.

The gravity of these testimonies cannot be overstated, as four of the ten women involved claim that these encounters took place when they were still teenagers. The specific descriptions of these alleged incidents are deeply unsettling. One woman recounts a traumatic experience in a motel bathroom when she was just 17, while another describes a chilling instance where she claims Leto threatened her with sexual violence at the age of 19. Furthermore, a third participant details a sexual encounter in California when she was 17—an age that falls below the legal age of consent. Among the most haunting accounts is that of a woman who alleges that, at age 16, she was subjected to a barrage of sexually explicit phone calls from the actor, during which he allegedly pressured her regarding physical intimacy.

These allegations span a significant timeline, allegedly occurring between 2002 and 2016. During this period, Leto, who is now 54, was traversing his 30s and 40s, placing him in a position of significant adult maturity compared to the young women involved. The documentary serves as a stark reminder of the age and power differentials that often complicate such encounters. By bringing these stories into the public eye, the survivors are not only reliving painful memories but are also seeking a measure of accountability for actions they contend were entirely predatory in nature.

In response to the documentary, representatives for Jared Leto issued a firm and concise rejection of the claims. Addressing the accusations head-on, Leto stated, “I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life,” characterizing the entirety of the allegations as “absolutely and categorically false.” This blanket denial stands in direct opposition to the claims presented by the ten women featured in the film. For an icon who has spent decades cultivating a public persona of artistry and intensity, these words represent his attempt to shield his reputation from what he maintains is a collection of untruthful narratives.

The situation is further complicated by the due diligence performed by the BBC during their production process. The network has asserted that they took significant steps to verify the legitimacy of these accounts, noting that they successfully corroborated several of the women’s stories by speaking with friends and family members who had been told about these encounters at the time they occurred. Perhaps even more compelling for investigators and the public alike is the report that the documentary team was presented with photographs and digital messages that they believe provide substantive support for the women’s claims, moving the discourse beyond mere hearsay and into the realm of documented evidence.

It is vital to acknowledge that this is not an isolated development for Leto. These headlines follow a growing pattern of public accusations, including a notable social media post by DJ Allie Teilz last year, in which she claimed that an assault occurred when she was 17. Her courage spurred a wider investigation by Air Mail in June 2025, which saw several other individuals step forward with similar experiences. As the conversation surrounding these allegations continues to evolve, the public is left to process the tension between the star’s resolute denial and the mounting, documented testimonies of those who say he caused them irreparable harm. The truth, as is often the case in high-profile legal and ethical reckonings, remains at the center of a profound and painful debate.
