Ghaziabad Man Arrested for Spreading False News of Amit Shah’s Demise

Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh – In a swift response to the dissemination of fake news concerning Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s purported demise, Ghaziabad police apprehended a 34-year-old man named Rohit, a resident of Moradabad district. The arrest took place on Tuesday following a complaint lodged by BJP office-bearer Anil Sharma, who brought the fabricated news circulating on Facebook to the attention of authorities.

The incident unfolded when Sharma stumbled upon a Facebook post falsely claiming the death of Amit Shah. Realizing the gravity of the situation and the potential for widespread panic and misinformation, he promptly reported the matter to the police. The authorities, recognizing the urgency of the situation, initiated an investigation into the source of the fake news.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Indirapuram) Swatantra Kumar Singh confirmed the arrest and stated that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Rohit under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (Amendment) Act. The charges encompass offenses related to spreading misinformation and causing public mischief using electronic media.

The police employed a combination of traditional investigative techniques and electronic surveillance to track down the accused. Their efforts led them to the Hindon River Barrage in Vasundhara Colony, where Rohit was apprehended. During interrogation, Rohit confessed to fabricating and posting the fake news with the intention of gaining more followers on his Facebook page. This revelation sheds light on the motivation behind such acts, often driven by a desire for online notoriety and attention, even at the expense of truth and public order.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the potential for misuse of social media platforms to spread misinformation and create unnecessary panic. In the age of rapid information dissemination, the unchecked spread of fake news can have far-reaching consequences, not only for individuals but also for societal harmony and national security. The authorities are determined to send a strong message that such actions will not be tolerated, and perpetrators will be held accountable under the law.

The investigation is ongoing to ascertain whether Rohit acted alone or if there were other individuals involved in the creation and dissemination of the false news. The police are also examining the possibility of previous instances of similar malicious activity by the accused. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible social media usage and the need for critical evaluation of information encountered online. In an era where misinformation can spread like wildfire, individuals have a collective responsibility to verify the authenticity of information before sharing it with others. The authorities are committed to tackling the menace of fake news and are working diligently to implement measures to curb its spread and protect the public from its harmful effects. The case against Rohit is a testament to their resolve to ensure accountability for those who engage in such irresponsible behavior.
