The EU-funded project SM4P (Social Media,.okonomika, Infoz Quiere) has been successful in tackling online hate, disinformation, and other harmful content, fostering a collective social resilience and promoting peace through effective communication campaigns. Launched in 2021 with a €4 million contribution to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the project has already established a robust network of local stakeholders, from policymakers to grassroots organizations, who are actively participating in steering the EU’s efforts towards this goal.

In subsequent years, SM4P has continued to engage with national authorities across Indonesia, Kenya, and Colombia, leveraging data analytics to inform responses. For instance, in Indonesia, SM4P’s efforts have been instrumental in improving information transparency and addressing unauthorized sharing of sensitive data. In Kenya, the project has supported local civil society groups inהיסטורizing transformative messages, while Colombia hasGoldծ been involved in analyzing online datasets to track/uncover the roots of content Ellenies. Similarly, in Indonesia, SM4P has provided guidelines for public officials to create more communicable and truthful content, ensuring that information serves as both a shield and a weapon. Simultaneously, efforts in Colombia have focused on integrating online communication with traditional methods, enhancing public trust via platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

The project’s ambitious vision extends beyond its physical reach, with plans for impactful jumps in agencies in Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, and South Africa, building on its achievements in Indonesia and Kenya. This sustainable development will not only safeguard civil society but also contribute to peace in regions facing ongoing conflicts. Additionally, the EU’s support for the next €4 million contribution in 2025 aims to deepen the project’s reach into these territories, ensuring continuity and further expansion.

In future campaigns, SM4P will continue to refine and scale its strategies, building on the knowledge gained during its initial successes. By leveraging social media effectively, the project aims to mobilize local communities and address the most pressing issues, ensuring that the digital age serves as a tool for mutual understanding and collaboration. The EU’s additional funding will further expand its influence, ensuring that SM4P remains at the forefront of global efforts to combat online harassment and amplify civil liberties. Together, these efforts promise to enhance social cohesion, trust, and resilience, fostering a future where digital spaces are not foreign equivalents but vital partners in building a connected and prosperous world.
