Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Emphasizes Technological Adaptation for Police Force Amidst Evolving Security Landscape

Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir – In a significant address at the Passing Out Parade of probationer Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs) at the Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy in Udhampur district, Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha underscored the imperative for the police force to embrace innovative technological tools, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), to effectively counter emerging challenges such as disinformation, deepfakes, and cross-border cyber threats. Recognizing the transformative impact of modern technologies on the security landscape, Sinha emphasized that the Jammu & Kashmir Police must adapt and enhance their capabilities to address these evolving threats.

The Lieutenant Governor commended the Jammu & Kashmir Police for their unwavering commitment and dedication in upholding the internal security of the nation and ensuring the safety and well-being of the citizens of the Union Territory, especially under extremely challenging circumstances. He acknowledged the significant role played by the police force in maintaining peace and stability in the region and emphasized the need for continuous improvement and adaptation to effectively address the ever-changing security dynamics.

Sinha highlighted the growing concerns posed by disinformation and deepfakes, which have the potential to manipulate public opinion, incite unrest, and undermine democratic processes. He stressed that the Jammu & Kashmir Police must proactively equip themselves with innovative tools and techniques to counter these threats and ensure the dissemination of accurate and reliable information. This includes leveraging AI-powered tools for identifying and debunking disinformation campaigns, as well as developing strategies to mitigate the impact of deepfakes.

Furthermore, the Lieutenant Governor acknowledged the increasing threat of cross-border cyberattacks, which can compromise critical infrastructure, disrupt essential services, and compromise sensitive data. He stressed the importance of enhancing the cyber security capabilities of the Jammu & Kashmir Police to effectively detect, prevent, and respond to these attacks. This includes investing in advanced cyber security technologies, providing specialized training to police personnel, and fostering collaboration with national and international cyber security agencies.

Sinha’s address also highlighted the significance of investing in human capital and providing continuous training and development opportunities for police officers. He emphasized the need for the police force to stay ahead of technological advancements and adopt best practices in law enforcement. He expressed his confidence in the capabilities of the newly inducted DySPs and urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in their service to the nation.

Concluding his address, the Lieutenant Governor extended his best wishes to the graduating officers, expressing his confidence in their abilities to overcome challenges and achieve success in their future endeavors. He reiterated the importance of their role in safeguarding the security and integrity of the nation and ensuring the well-being of the citizens of Jammu & Kashmir.
