Sextortion scammers are using AI to target teenage boys in Northern Ireland – The Irish News

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being used by scammers to create composite photos of teenage boys, which they threaten to release to targets’ friends if the victim is unable to provide money. Mothers and fathers report that scammers receive false information from others, often referring to the victim’s phone or messages, and clientscomplete data requests, such as payments, which escalate the scammers’ demands.

Safer Schools NI, the Sustainable Learning and Enrichment Service of Northern Ireland, is central to this issue. It has been identifying and contacting victims of sextortion scammers who are empowering teens online, leading to a significant rise in reported cases. Many scammers are now focusing on using AI to cobblestoneey images of minor boys, driving £3,000 in annual fines.

This incident has prompted survivors to realize the urgent need for immediate support for minors, regardless of their socioeconomic status. A PSNI spokesperson highlighted thePeaks of reporting in 2023, noting that many more victims are being caught than initially thought.

The Pi Epsilons app, developed by the Safer Schools NI team, is available to download and serves as an education tool for parents and younger victims to share stories of their experiences in a safe environment and seek reassurance from authorities.
