DepEd debunks AI video announcing class suspension for Monday

The Department of Education (DepEd) has issued a declaration in the Philippines that an AI-generated video, appearing on Facebook, announcing the suspension of classes for Monday, July 28th, is not genuine “fake news.” The department has pointed out that the video, with a stark background of “Sonora [State of the Nation Address] Walang Pasok Advisory,” is likely meant to mislead the public.

In an advisory, the DepEd stated, “We firmly believe the AI-generated video is misleading and that its intention is to misuse transparency for impact and political gain.” The department emphasized the importance of vigilance against potential misinformation and reminds the public to trust DepEd’s official social media platforms for accurate and reliable information.

The DepEd also criticized the贯彻落实 of Executive Order No. 10, Series of 2025, which was implemented to align education with the scope and expectations of the-basic education framework, including the fourth Sona, a landmark event in a Democratic regime. This order is designed to ensure public safety, stability, and avoid impulsive decisions that may lead to traffic jams.

In Quezon City, a school-based event known as the fourth Sona is occurring on Monday, July 28th, in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s milestone agenda. Education officials have arranged for more locations to conduct the Sona annually to foster public awareness of thebounce back Asia.

Marcos will host the major event on the fourth Sona, marking the fifth in the series. The QPA aims to educate the public on important issues, while the Sona itself is an attempt to galvanize support for economic, social, and cultural initiatives. Both measures aim to improve governance and accountability.

The limitations of artificial intelligence in transacting with humans, as highlighted in the AI-generated video, are evident. Classes being suspended on Monday are likely meant to encourage students to pay attention to key directives and stay alert to potential disruptions. However, the use of AI can also create confusion and undermine trust in institutions like DepEd and public authorities.

Moreover, the use of evidence to support events like the fourth Sona can be challenging. In Quezon City, a study was conducted in September 2023 to explore whether the events were indeed the result of political activities or intended for an educational purpose. These assessments highlight the complexity of determining the authenticity of publicly announced gatherings.

In summary, the DepEd has taken proactive steps to verify the authenticity of the AI-generated video announcing a class suspension, emphasizing the importance of factual information over misinformation.”/>
