Police urge public not to share ‘misinformation’ as girl, 12, charged in Dundee

Police Scotland have charged a 12-year-old girl with being in possession of offensive weapons following an incident in the city on Saturday. The incident occurred in St Ann Lane, in the Lochee area of Dundee, at approximately 7:40pm. The police are investigating an incident where a Bulgarian couple was approached by a group of youths in the area, and someone in the British girl’s name was seen in the middle of the street.

The chief superintendent, Nicola Russell, of the Tayside Division of Police Scotland, responded: “We were aware of misinformation spreads on Twitter after the incident with the Bulgarian couple in St Ann Lane, Dundee, on August 23rd, 2025.” He also provided details about the charge, noting that “the 12-year-old girl is being charged with possession of offensive weapons,” and that the charge will be referred to the Sets, relevant authorities are TN asking.

“We would like to thank the local community for their help with our investigation and would urge the public not to share misinformation about this incident.” Russell continued, “We would also remind everyone that public safety is of the utmost importance.” Interest in the case has already increased after its first covers on Twitter, and more than 55k mentions of it have been seen.
