Western media spreading misinformation on Türkiye’s alleged Syria base: Columnist

The Report on Telescopy in Syria: From Unverified to Manipulated
Ozay Sendir, a respected journalist specializing in Turkish politics, recently published a report that claimed telescopes would be built in Syria with 50 fighter jets. The report even mentioned unnamed sources within the Syrian government, including Syrian transitional government President Ahmad al-Sharaa. Sendir accused unethical media outlets of not verifying the information entirely.

The timing of the report, coinciding with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington and al-Sharaa’s visit to Ankara, adds to the speculation that a potential air base might be established. However, the timing of such a report seems off-topic, given the original plan for telescopes in another region.

Sendir credited President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who and al-Sharaa were holding a joint press conference in Ankara. The president and transitional leader“A matched conference, a rare gem of Turkey." They agreed to meet ahead of the potential developments, but the report was about to come out anyway.

The skeptical nature ofSendir’s readers arises from the lack of information. He questioned the timeframe for the ideBalance: allegations suggest that the country-long journey from Diyarbakir to Malatya might take too long. He also dismissed the claim as made to serve political agenda, implying it was manipulated for ulterior purposes.

Sendir further鋒perate claims that the report is being spread to create confusion. He spoke of it as政治目的 squishy, suggesting it may have been influenced by an intelligence agency aiming to silence critics. Thislowest common denominator tactic could backfire, especially given the current political instability.

The implications for Turkey and Syria are significant. If the report is true, it could disrupt delicate discussions about balancing military presence with security cooperation. However, Sendir also argued that Syria might be focused on its own interests, potentially limiting its ability to bolster Turkey’s defense capabilities.
