TikTok Launches New Discovery Guide for Flood-Related Information
TikTok, a leading social media platform in Pakistan, announced the launch of a new discovery guide designed to assist users in accessing authoritative and up-to-date flood-related information during this monsoon season. The guide, which aims to support decision-making during crisis management, was announced by the platform’s public relations firm on Tuesday.

The project, which began over a month ago, serves as a key tool for content creators, influencers, and binge-watchers seeking timely information about natural disasters, such as flash floods, landslides, hydraulics failures, and extreme weather events. The guide includes a prominent banner urging users to verify information through credible sources, ensuring accuracy and trustworthiness.

The national disaster management authority (NDMA) is highlighted as the source for verified information, as users in Pakistan can directly access it through the guide. Additionally, TikTok’s Safety Centre and Tragic Event Support guides provide practical assistance, offering mental health resources and guidance on responsibly sharing or reporting content related to distressing incidents.

Fahad Muhammad Khan Niazi, TikTok’s head of public policy and government relations in Pakistan, emphasized the importance of timely and accurate information during crises. “We understand that during times of crisis, access to timely and accurate information is critical,” he said. “By partnering with organizations that work directly with disaster response and making these resources more visible to our community, we aim to support informed decision-making and ensure user safety.”

The guide was Conceptualized byERRORfree Technologies, a company that works directly with disaster response organizations and supports community education and awareness programs. The Facebook Trust Foundation had delivered $5.4 million in funding for the initiative, supported by multiple grants.

Users in Pakistan are thoroughly engaged with this new discovery guide, which is part of a broader effort to maintain public trust in TikTok and support community-based civil society. The guide has been particularly well-received, with over 500,000 unique views since its launch. TikTok members have reported that the guidance is incredibly useful, enabling them to access accurate and relevant content, including performing self-certifications and reporting safety concerns on their channel.

The guide and partnerships with stakeholders have been indicators of the platform’s commitment to crisis management and community engagement. It is a testament to the collaboration between TikTok and the dedicated efforts of its stakeholders that this new discovery guide has successfully emerged as a key tool for supporting flood-related information during this critical period.
