Poynter and the DC Public Library host events on misinformation and understanding the news

The DC Public Library is hosting a multiday series called "Moments of Truth: An Exploration of Journalism’s Past, Present, and Future"—a collaboration with the Poynter Institute, a global leader in journalism adeptess. The series highlights key moments in American journalism, including colonial print and AI-generated news. Visitors explore 10 interactive panels with artists, journalists, and media observers, providing hands-on experiences with journalistic processes. The event concludes with a moderated panel discussion led by giants like Chris Wallace, Tia Mitchell, and Lori Montenegro. Q&A sessions and refreshments will follow. The series is free, with live workshops and interactive displays, bringing critical thinking to everyday conversations. It explores topics like verifying information, distinguishing lies, and navigating misinformation, supported by weekly workshops.

In Scroll Smarter, participants practice critical skills, such as evaluating online sources and identifying manipulative techniques. A session titled Navigating Mis- and Disinformation 101 emphasizes straightforward methods like reverse image searches. Operation: Is This Legit? uses a rooftop escape room to teach verification methods used in real newsrooms.
