Elon Musk subsequently amplified this assertion, suggesting that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a new government office under the Trump Administration, was shutting down “illegal payments” to cover up funding issues.

These allegations were claimed to be baseless and dangerous, as Lutheran organizations for decades have consistently served refugees, immigrants, and vulnerable communities, using grant funding responsibly and transparently. These funds support legally admitted refugees and provide essential services, fulfilling their commitment to care for the most vulnerable. For over 2,000 years, the church has been called to feed the hungry, care for the sick, and advocate for justice and dignity for all people.
