Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting sensitizes communities on Countering Misinformation and Disinformation –

Mentioning the Importance of Countering Misinformation in the North Bank Region

By Haruna Kuyateh, the ministry of information, media, and broadcasting, in collaboration with WAVE Gambia, has organized a symposium in Kerewan North Bank to educate the community on the dangers of misinformation and disinformation. The event was held to empower the gathering with knowledge about how such information can divide society and jeopardize peace and security. The Ministry emphasized the critical role of education in ensuring that the public becomes vigilant and armed against false information, which are increasingly harmful in the digital age.

Lamin Saidykhan, the Governor of the North Bank Region, highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating that failure to act could lead to fragmentation and instability. He stressed that the symposium would serve as a platform to empower the community with见识 and tools necessary to detect and combat misinformation. He also expressed gratitude to the government for carrying out this campaign and called on the people to remain vigilant and steadfast against such threats.

Muh[args Bah, a Communication Specialist, pointed out that misinformation and disinformation pose serious risks to social stability, making it essential to foster public awareness. He highlighted the need for the outreach to empower individuals to verify information and to leverage social media platforms effectively in dispelling/forging false narratives. Bah also emphasized the role of sources and verified information, trusting them to provide accurate and beneficial content. His speech underscored the importance of education in leading the community to maintain trust and build trust in institutions and organizations.

Tijan Janneh of GRTS, a local college, stressed the importance of information’s power and the need for individuals to be mindful of the types of information they disseminate. Janneh urged the public to engage with information in a constructive and responsible manner, ensuring that it aligns with fact and truth. He stressed the need for censorship when dealing with content related to misinformation, as it can misuse power and harm society.anne, amolagbaga, G Datagram, and the members of the committee expressed their invaluable contributions to the symposium, highlighting their dedication to the theme of countering misinformation.

Bakary Fatty, the vice president of the North Bank Region, advised authorities to take strong action against misinformation, challenging them to intensify efforts in countering such threats. He also underscored the need for transparency, ensuring access to information (ATI) is mandatory, and complying with data protection regulations. Bakary emphasized the importance of linking the symposium to broader societal efforts, buildingrine support from parents and elders for proactive engagement in countering misinformation.

The symposium ended with a strong call to action, urging the community to vigilant and remain vigilant. THANK YOU to the Ministry, WAVE Gambia, and assistants for their efforts, acknowledging the contributions of all participants. From Lamindykhan Governor to researchers, teachers, and leaders in the region, each contributed their voice to ensure the safety and well-being of the people in the region. The message of countering misinformation and disinformation continues to resonate, underscoring the importance of collective vigilance and collective action in a world filled with lies and noise.

In conclusion, the symposium was a significant step in addressing the need to counter misinformation and disinformation, emphasizing the importance of education, trust, and proactive actions in maintained balance and security in the region.
