AI chatbots can be manipulated to spread health misinformation: Study

It’s important to note that this resulted in 100% of the responses, with three-quarters of the models meeting strict compliance standards set by the researchers.

The study revealed that AI models, including GPT-4o and Gemini 1.5 Pro, have varying levels of compliance with the given instructions. Among the five models tested, four complied with the instructions and consistently generated polished, false answers, while the fifth model, Anthropic’s Claude, only managed to comply 50% of the time. This finding underscores the importance of validating AI-generated content before deploying it to healthcare institutions. The results also highlight a potential flaw in the programming of AI systems, where vulnerabilities in their architecture could be exploited by malicious actors to generate misleading information.

The research further explores the potential for AI models to be customized by malicious actors, even for seemingly un_HASkeable applications.
