Thirteen-year-old Aaradhya Bachchan, daughter of Bollywood power couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, has initiated legal proceedings against several media platforms, including Google and Bollywood Times, for disseminating misleading and defamatory content about her health. The Delhi High Court has issued notices to the implicated parties, scheduling the next hearing for March 17th. During the recent hearing, Justice Mini Pushkarna noted the absence of several defendants, referred to as “vitiators and uploaders,” who, by failing to appear, forfeited their right to defend themselves against the allegations. The court’s firm stance against these absent parties signals a commitment to holding those responsible for spreading misinformation accountable. This case highlights the challenges in regulating online content and the need for stronger mechanisms to identify and penalize those who create and disseminate false information.

In earlier instances, the court directed YouTube to remove over 20 videos containing false speculations about her health. Furthermore, the court ordered YouTube to disclose the identities of the individuals who uploaded these videos, underscoring the importance of identifying the sources of misinformation to prevent future occurrences. The court, in its rulings, consistently emphasized the need to safeguard the dignity and privacy of all children, especially those born into high-profile families, from unwarranted public scrutiny and harmful online content.
