Andhra Pradesh Political Clash: YSRCP MP Mithun Reddy Rebuts Land Encroachment Allegations, Accuses TDP of "Vindictive Politics"
A heated political battle has erupted in Andhra Pradesh, with YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Member of Parliament, P. Mithun Reddy, vehemently denying accusations of forest land encroachment leveled against his family. Reddy, representing the Rajampet constituency in the Lok Sabha, has accused the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led coalition government of engaging in a smear campaign driven by "vindictive politics." The allegations center around a property owned by Reddy’s father, P. Ramachandra Reddy, a former minister and current YSRCP MLA from Punganur, in Pulicherla mandal of Chittoor district.
Speaking to the media in Delhi, Mithun Reddy dismissed the allegations as "blatant lies" and a deliberate attempt to tarnish the reputation of his family. He asserted that the property in question is not forest land and that his family possesses all necessary documents and clearances from relevant authorities. Reddy further claimed that the TDP and its alleged "friendly media" are propagating false narratives without providing any substantial evidence. He traced the purchase of the land back to 2001 and pointed to a 1968 Gazette notification that, according to him, clearly establishes the land’s non-forest status. He revealed that the land was acquired for Rs 4 lakh per acre, totaling a value of Rs 3 crore.
Mithun Reddy directly targeted Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of orchestrating the attacks. Describing Naidu as a contemporary of his father from the same Chittoor district, Reddy condemned the Chief Minister’s alleged resort to "vindictive politics." He challenged the ruling coalition to substantiate the allegations or issue a public apology. Reddy emphasized that such "cheap tactics" would not deter him or his family, vowing to fight back with renewed vigor and expose the coalition’s alleged dissemination of false information. He referenced a previous controversy surrounding the Madanapalle files, where similar accusations against his family were ultimately unproven.
P. Ramachandra Reddy has also refuted the allegations, labeling them as a meticulously planned "negative campaign." He reiterated the 2001 purchase date of the 75-acre property and cited a 1981 declaration by the Director of Settlements confirming its status as "not a forest land." Addressing the issue of a road leading to the estate passing through the forest, Ramachandra Reddy clarified that it was constructed with due permission from the Central government. He maintained that the allegations are entirely baseless and politically motivated.
Adding further support, Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, the YSRCP Chittoor District President and former TTD Chairman, denounced the accusations against Ramachandra Reddy as politically driven and devoid of any factual basis. He condemned a section of the media for publishing what he termed as "false reports" and urged them to refrain from spreading misinformation. The escalating war of words between the YSRCP and the ruling TDP coalition highlights the intensifying political rivalry in Andhra Pradesh.
The dispute surrounding the land ownership illustrates the recurring pattern of land-related controversies in the state’s political landscape. Accusations of encroachment and illegal acquisition of land have frequently surfaced, often targeting political opponents. These disputes not only underscore the complex land ownership issues in the region but also reveal how land becomes a weapon in political battles. The conflicting claims and counter-claims make it challenging to discern the truth amidst the political posturing.
The involvement of the media in disseminating information related to these allegations also adds another layer of complexity. Accusations of "friendly media" and biased reporting further cloud the picture, making it difficult for the public to form an informed opinion. In such a charged environment, calls for transparency and thorough investigations are crucial to ensure that justice prevails and that political rivalries do not overshadow the pursuit of truth.
The YSRCP’s strong rebuttal and accusations of a politically motivated smear campaign underscore the deep-seated animosity between the two political parties. The incident has further fueled the already tense political climate in the state, with both sides engaging in a war of words and accusations. As the controversy continues to unfold, it remains to be seen whether further evidence will emerge to substantiate the allegations or if the accusations will be proven false. Either way, the incident has further deepened the political divide in Andhra Pradesh and is likely to continue to be a point of contention in the near future. The situation calls for a thorough and impartial investigation to determine the truth and hold those responsible accountable, regardless of their political affiliations. Only through such a process can public trust in the state’s political system be restored.
