CPN-UML Chairman Oli Rallies Party for Unity and Strength Amidst Perceived Threats

KATHMANDU, NEPAL – In a fervent address to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), Chairman KP Sharma Oli, also the nation’s Prime Minister, issued a call for unity and strength within the party ranks. He painted a picture of a party under siege by "reactionary forces" seeking to undermine its growing influence. Oli argued that these forces, threatened by the UML’s rising popularity and its patriotic, progressive, and democratic agenda, are resorting to propaganda and misinformation to weaken the party. He stressed the urgency of countering these narratives and bolstering the party’s presence at the grassroots level.

Oli’s address, delivered at the eighth meeting of the UML Central Committee in Chyasal, served as a rallying cry for party members to actively combat the alleged disinformation campaign. He urged them to engage directly with the public, presenting facts and counter-arguments to the accusations leveled against the UML. He emphasized the importance of not remaining silent in the face of criticism, framing silence as a sign of weakness. Instead, he advocated for a proactive approach, reaching out to individuals and households to solidify the party’s support base and transform it into a decisive political force.

The Prime Minister underscored the need for a dual strategy: robust public engagement coupled with a renewed focus on ideological work. He stressed that strengthening the party’s ideological foundation is crucial to maintaining its unity and direction. He cautioned against internal strife and factionalism, warning that such divisions would only play into the hands of their opponents. He called for an end to infighting and urged members to prioritize the interests of the party and the nation over personal ambitions or divisive tactics.

In a veiled critique of former party members who had previously contributed to internal divisions, Oli alluded to past instances of party splits and dissolutions. He suggested that some of those who celebrated the party’s setbacks now find themselves regretting their actions, using a metaphorical image of having to "vomit" the sweets they once enjoyed. This pointed remark served as a reminder of the potential consequences of internal dissent and a plea for unity moving forward.

Oli’s emphasis on unity and strength reflects the challenges faced by the CPN-UML in Nepal’s complex political landscape. Navigating a multi-party system and facing scrutiny from various political factions, the party is striving to maintain its position and influence. The Chairman’s call for action underscores the importance of internal cohesion and strategic communication in achieving the party’s political objectives. He emphasized the need to translate the party’s ideology and policies into tangible actions that resonate with the public and solidify its support base.

The meeting of the Central Committee serves as a platform for the CPN-UML to strategize and address the challenges it faces. Oli’s address sets the tone for the party’s future direction, emphasizing the importance of unity, public engagement, and a strong ideological foundation. The party’s ability to effectively implement these strategies will be crucial in determining its success in the upcoming political landscape. The focus on grassroots engagement and countering misinformation suggests a proactive approach to solidifying the party’s position and building a strong connection with the Nepali people.
