UK, Lexington Police respond to false active shooter report near library

The University of Kentucky announced today that a social media post linked to an active shooter at the William T. Young Library was identified as a false alarm. Police from the University of Kentucky and KY police responded in less than two minutes to the report, which was reported by KY popular news. The officers used the campus cameras to confirm the false threat, and no Immediate Action Level (IAL) alerts were issued, meaning no students, faculty, or staff were directed to take further action. The University of Kentucky stated that campus safety remains a top priority, and it will continue to respond as needed to address potential security concerns.

In addition to the immediate action, the university reported that over the past week, around 1,200 individuals have submitted false threats to universities across the nation. The University of Kentucky emphasizes the consequences of spreading false information, particularly within institutions like its own.
