Raveena Tandon, a well-known Indian actor, recently opened up about a terrifying incident that occurred outside her Mumbai home in 2024. What started as an accusation against her driver quickly escalated into a full-blown mob scene, leaving Tandon and her family shaken. Two years later, she’s sharing her side of the story, revealing how CCTV footage ultimately exposed what she believes was an elaborate “extortion plan” orchestrated to scare her and extract money.

The night began with accusations that her driver had assaulted a woman. A crowd of nearly 30 men gathered outside her home, their anger palpable. Tandon recalls stepping out, initially thinking that some women in burqas present might be guests who had a misunderstanding with her driver. Her intention was to apologize on his behalf, hoping to de-escalate the situation. However, the atmosphere quickly turned aggressive, and Tandon realized this was no ordinary misunderstanding. The mob allegedly attacked her driver and security staff, attempting to force their way into her residence.

Tandon describes the terrifying ordeal, emphasizing that the allegations against her driver were completely fabricated. According to her, it was all a ploy to extort money. She believes the mob’s goal was to instill fear and pressure her into a financial settlement. “I’d have definitely stood up and fought,” she stated, “but the point here is they were trying to scare us and settle it for money. They were blaming him for no reason when nothing had happened.”

Fortunately, Tandon’s home was equipped with CCTV cameras, which proved to be crucial in uncovering the truth. The footage clearly showed that the accusations were baseless, exposing the alleged extortion scheme. Tandon pointed out how misleadingly edited videos had circulated on social media, highlighting the double-edged sword that platforms like Instagram can be. “Instagram and social media are both a boon and a bane,” she remarked, “They tried very hard to edit it in such a way.”

The police, after reviewing the evidence, later confirmed Tandon’s suspicions, informing her that the entire episode appeared to be an “extortion plan” designed to create chaos. Tandon recounted how the incident began with a woman threatening her driver with a false rape case after he tried to stop her from recording inside the premises. “She went on a tangent, saying, ‘How can you touch me? I’ll call the cops and file a rape complaint against you,’” Raveena recalled. With her husband away and children inside, Tandon felt compelled to intervene personally. However, the situation quickly spiraled out of control as the crowd turned violent, assaulting her driver and security staff as they attempted to protect her.

In a powerful display of courage, Tandon, along with two domestic helpers, stood at the entrance of her home, forming a human barrier against the angry mob. “It was three women – me and two domestic helps – blocking 30 men. It was crazy!” she exclaimed. The mob beat up watchmen, snatched her phone, and even managed to get one man inside her house. Without hesitation, Tandon physically confronted the intruder, grabbing him by his shirt and pushing him out – a testament to her determination to protect her family and home. This terrifying experience serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of misinformation, especially when fueled by social media, and the lengths some individuals will go to for personal gain.
