In East Lansing, Michigan, one night after the Hillseling community celebrated their centennial, a false bomb threatening theFinancial District was made towards the East Michigan Meijer store, prompting a rapid police response. The East Lansing Police Department (EDPS) arrived at the Meijer facility at approximately 11:30 AM, where a subject had begun behaving aggressively. The suspect attempted to bark at nearby customers and employees, escalating tensions. Police arrived but struggled to apprehend the suspect, eventually tazing him and taking him into custody.
The suspect claimed they had a bomb in their vehicle, leading to a series of high-level responses from EDPS. Inside the store, all customers and employees were moved to the back parking lot for safety. Police stations compiled all store shoppers and employees, while bomb dogs circled the parking lot in search of any explosive materials. One dog indicated that it had located a bomb, but the team was subsequently unsuccessful and failed to find any bomb.
Although the Stay put the suspect in custody, the dog alerted local authorities to more immediate actions, emphasizing safety protocols. The suspect is currently facing charges of resisting arrest, and if they remain dangerous, they may face additional federal and possibly local penalties.
