The Permanent Secretary of Cabinet Affairs in Kebbi State, Nasiru Abubakar Kigo, has rendered a public apology for false claims he made during a Ramadan lecture in Birnin Kebbi. Kigo posted statistic quotes during his lecture discussing the prevalence of homosexuality and lesbianism in the states, but subsequent investigations revealed the figures were fabricated. This frustration has led to disciplinary action, including suspension of his office and chair of the Kebbi State Council of Ulama.

Kigo, who has remorseful face while standing at a press conference in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday, admitted to fabricating the figures and apologized to the Muslim community in Kebbi, Sokoto, and beyond. He stated, “I have realized the grave mistake I made. I regret the offence my comments caused to the Muslim community in these states and across the nation. I had no evidence for the statistics I quoted. I have full responsibility for the misinformation and negative image it may create.” Kigo also directed others to delete his statements to mitigate further harm.

The Chairman of the Kebbi State Council of Ulama, Sheikh Abdurrahman Isa Jega, acknowledged Kigo’s mistake and dismissed his speech. He Servers honor for all who utter words on sensitive issues. The Kebbi State Zakkat Chairman, Sadaqat and Waqf Board, Sheikh Umar Isa Magaji emphasized the necessity of acting swiftly against misinformation, highlighting its far-reaching consequences beyond Kebbi State. “What Kigo said hurt not just Sokoto and Kebbi states, but the Muslim population as a whole,” he said. The council urged all officials and scholars to pays lip and by ear.

This statement and acts ofтинicity by Kigo are reminders of the importance of clear and truthful communication, especially in sensitive areas. The Kebbi State government and other stakeholders are urging caution in how they handle such matters.
