Huntington woman employed by Indiana DCS wanted after making alleged false reports against ex-husband

The integrity of our child protection systems relies entirely on the honesty of those entrusted to operate them. In a recent, unsettling case out of Huntington, Indiana, a 60-year-old Department of Child Services (DCS) worker, Cynthia M. Clore, has found herself at the center of a criminal investigation. Clore, who spent her career ostensibly safeguarding children, is now facing an arrest warrant following allegations that she weaponized the very system she served to target her own ex-husband and the maternal grandmother of his adopted daughter. This betrayal of trust highlights how easily professional authority can be manipulated for deeply personal, and ultimately malicious, vendettas.

The ordeal began when the child’s father received a copy of an anonymous report filed with the state’s child abuse hotline in November 2025. The document contained a litany of disturbing, fabricated claims, including allegations of medical neglect, filth in the grandmother’s home, and the existence of inappropriate, illicit photographs of the child. Having previously enjoyed a positive relationship with his ex-wife during the adoption process, the father quickly recognized the specific, vindictive language used in the report. He noted that the accusations almost perfectly mirrored text messages Clore had sent to her brother months earlier, following a contentious divorce settlement that had left her dissatisfied.

As authorities dove into the details, the cruelty of the deception became clear. An official investigation by a neighboring county quickly cleared the family of any wrongdoing, confirming that the entire report was a pure fabrication designed to cause chaos and potential heartbreak. The timing of the call, occurring shortly after a failed divorce settlement and amidst a series of personal disputes, pointed toward a clear motive. The father firmly believed that Clore, unable to accept the court’s financial decisions, chose to lash out by attempting to destroy the reputations and family stability of those she deemed her adversaries, indifferent to the trauma such allegations could inflict on the young child mentioned in the report.

The evidence against Clore continued to mount as investigators reviewed audio from the DCS hotline call. During the recorded intake, the caller attempted to pivot into a conversation about financial support payments—a mistake that nearly cost the anonymous tipster their mask of secrecy. When the automated recording captured the caller briefly slipping, they audibly panicked, exclaiming, “Please don’t put that down, OK? That might disclose who.” Investigators listening to the tape later identified the voice as being undeniably that of Clore, a conclusion bolstered by the fact that she was internally familiar with the specific medical history of the child, information that a random bystander would have no way of knowing.

When police finally reached out to Clore, her reaction veered from confusion to a calculated attempt at self-preservation. Upon learning investigators were looking into the hotline report, she immediately identified herself as a fellow DCS employee, seemingly hoping this disclosure would shield her from further scrutiny. When confronted directly about whether she was the one who made the call, she did not deny it; instead, she claimed she needed to “staff” the situation with a legal representative from her agency before speaking further. She never followed up, and soon after, her own family members began to signal that she expected to lose her employment, clearly signaling that the weight of her deceit had become impossible to ignore.

Today, the situation serves as a stark warning about the dangers of unchecked power. Cynthia M. Clore now faces serious criminal charges, including official misconduct and the felony of falsely reporting child abuse. While the legal system will ultimately determine the outcome of these charges, the damage to the public’s faith in the anonymity of such important reporting lines is profound. In her attempt to “ruin” her ex-husband, a woman employed to protect the vulnerable instead became the architect of a nightmare, proving that when the guardians of our children lose their moral compass, they can do far more damage than any outsider ever could.
