GoldBod rejects false claims it lost GH¢200m to Sammy Gyamfi’s alleged bodyguard, explains what really happened

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has recently been forced to take a public stand against a wave of sensationalist rumors circulating online. Reports claiming that the regulatory body suffered a staggering loss of GH¢200 million at the hands of a company called Dominic Bonsu Ventures have dominated social media discussions, causing significant public confusion. In a firm response, GoldBod has labeled these allegations as entirely false, malicious, and fundamentally misleading. By addressing these claims head-on, the regulator aims to clear its reputation and dispel the narrative that its financial stability has been compromised by any internal or external actor.

Central to the viral rumors was the sensational suggestion that Dominic Bonsu, the proprietor of the venture, had a deep personal connection to the CEO of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, allegedly serving as his personal bodyguard. GoldBod has categorically denied this, clarifying that no such relationship ever existed. This specific detail appears to have been added to the narrative to add a layer of personal scandal and suggest internal corruption. By refuting this claim, GoldBod is not only protecting the personal reputation of its leadership but is also highlighting the fabricated nature of the stories being spread by faceless individuals online.

Moving beyond the personal allegations, GoldBod has provided a clear, factual account of why they took action against Dominic Bonsu Ventures in the first place. The regulator confirmed that the company’s gold trading license was suspended back in July 2026, but the reason was strictly regulatory. The suspension was a direct result of suspected breaches regarding the terms of their operating license and a failure to adhere to official trading directives. This action effectively stripped the company of its legal authority to buy, sell, transport, or aggregate gold, ensuring that they could no longer operate within the national framework.

The situation escalated from a simple administrative suspension to a serious legal matter involving the judiciary. GoldBod confirmed that, following investigations into these operational breaches and violations of the Ghana Gold Board Act of 2025, Mr. Dominic Bonsu was arrested. He is currently being held in lawful custody after being remanded by the High Court in Accra. By emphasizing that the proprietor is currently the subject of ongoing judicial proceedings, the Board is signaling that the legal system is actively handling the situation, and the truth will be established through the courts rather than through online hearsay.

GoldBod expressed deep concern over the intent behind these misinformation campaigns, noting that they appear designed to distort legitimate enforcement actions. The regulator argued that spreading such falsehoods does more than just damage their own image; it undermines public confidence in the integrity of Ghana’s gold sector as a whole. By framing the enforcement action as a “stolen money” scandal, the rumor-mongers have attempted to obscure the reality of the situation: that GoldBod is, in fact, doing its job by cracking down on entities that fail to comply with the law, regardless of the noise created by such disinformation.

In its closing statement, the Board issued a stern appeal to the public, as well as to media outlets and social media content creators. They urged everyone to rely exclusively on official channels for information and to exercise journalistic responsibility by verifying claims before disseminating them to the public. GoldBod reiterated its unwavering commitment to enforcing the nation’s gold trading laws with professionalism and impartiality. As the legal case against Mr. Bonsu continues, the regulator remains focused on its mandate, determined to ensure that the industry operates transparently and free from the influence of speculative, harmful propaganda.
