Baldoni’s Legal Counsel Denies Lively’s Allegations of Sexual Harassment

Hollywood Stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni Engulfed in Bitter Legal Battle

A legal feud between "It Ends With Us" stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni has erupted, escalating from accusations of on-set misconduct to claims of defamation, extortion, and a calculated smear campaign. The dispute, playing out in both the courts and the court of public opinion, centers around Lively’s allegations of sexual harassment against Baldoni during the filming of the movie, and Baldoni’s counter-accusations of a concerted effort to damage his reputation and career. The high-profile case has drawn in both stars’ spouses, Ryan Reynolds and Emily Baldoni, as well as a network of publicists, lawyers, and even major studios like Disney.

The battle began with Lively filing a complaint with California’s Civil Rights Department in December 2024, alleging sexual harassment and retaliation against Baldoni and others involved with the "It Ends With Us" production. Shortly after, the New York Times published a story detailing Baldoni’s alleged use of crisis PR tactics, which Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, claims was a strategically timed attack fueled by doctored communications. Baldoni followed up with a lawsuit against Lively, Reynolds, and publicist Leslie Sloane, seeking $400 million in damages for defamation and extortion, alleging a conspiracy to sabotage his career.

The conflict has quickly devolved into a war of words, with both sides trading accusations and denials. Lively’s legal team has dismissed Baldoni’s lawsuit as a classic "abuser playbook" tactic, while Freedman has vehemently defended his client, accusing Lively of exploiting her power and privilege to destroy Baldoni’s reputation. Freedman argues that Baldoni addressed Lively’s concerns professionally during filming and maintains that Lively’s allegations are false and self-serving.

Beyond the personal accusations, the legal battle also involves significant financial implications. Baldoni claims that Lively and Reynolds effectively stole his movie and that the ensuing controversy has severely damaged his career. Lively, on the other hand, alleges that a targeted online smear campaign orchestrated by Baldoni’s team significantly impacted her business ventures, including the launch of her haircare line, Blake Brown. She claims the negative publicity led to a substantial drop in sales, directly impacting her brand and financial standing.

The dispute has widened beyond the initial allegations, with Freedman raising questions about the character of “Nicepool” in the blockbuster film "Deadpool & Wolverine," suggesting it was a deliberate mockery of Baldoni. He sent a letter to Disney CEO Bob Iger and Marvel president Kevin Feige demanding evidence preservation and hinting at further legal action. While it remains unclear when the Nicepool character was conceived, sources suggest it was a late addition to the film, possibly coinciding with the early stages of the "It Ends With Us" production.

The intense back-and-forth between Lively and Baldoni’s legal teams continues to escalate, with both sides seemingly entrenched in their positions. Freedman has aggressively defended Baldoni in the media, while Lively’s team has largely refrained from engaging in public sparring. The complex legal battle, with its intertwined personal and financial stakes, shows no signs of abating. As the case progresses, the fallout continues to reverberate through Hollywood, impacting the careers and reputations of those involved.

This ongoing legal saga underscores the complex and often contentious nature of relationships within the entertainment industry. The case highlights the potential for personal disputes to escalate into highly publicized legal battles, with far-reaching consequences for the individuals and businesses involved. As the legal proceedings unfold, the truth behind the accusations and counter-accusations remains to be determined, leaving the public and industry insiders alike to watch the drama unfold.
