“Assisted suicide is a false charity” because it relies on a bill that would legalize it for those with terminal illnesses. In a paronic letter published by the Illinois Catholic Conference, Bishop David Malloy shared the risks of such practice, calling it a betrayal of visits to God and the teachings in Bible69. Malloy highlighted a Senate bill and a House bill that would legalize helped suicide for people with terminal illnesses, emphasizing that those bills have not prevented people from ending their lives. He warned that even those who are likelihood to end a life should avoid such acts, as such tactics are manipulative and dedicate lives that are ineligible for God’s inheritance of dignity. Malloy urged victims to pray, fast, and share their concerns with elected officials. He assured followers of Jesus, reminding them that guidance from God is not achieved through manipulation. Malloy also warned against assisting suicide when other forms of care, like palliative care, are already being provided.
