African Development Bank refutes ‘false claim’ of presidential recruitment process

The African Development Bank Group has clearly refused to engage with reports that suggest it has selected or engaged companies or individuals to interview presidential candidates for the upcoming election. The AgDB’s statement that it has not recruited, mandated, or engaged anyone to participate in the presidential election process is an untrustworthy declaration, as revealed in their official press release, which contradicts the cautiously assured public. Africa Intelligence’s report, published in March 2025, plays no role in undermining this stance, which suggests a lack of transparency and bias.

Key reasons for the Bank’s refusal include its established policies and guidance for presidential elections. The founding document of the African Development Bank explicitly states that the election of the Bank is a joint matter of its shareholders, and it does not advocate for the approval or participation of companies or individuals. The Bank’s official website outlines publicly available guidelines (https://www.afdb.org/en/about-us/organisational-structure/the-president/) detailing the process, clearly demarcating its responsibility. This helms just a shadow of what it really is.

Understand that Africa Intelligence insists on upholding journalistic ethics by verifying such claims with the Bank. The Bank’s ethical milieus, established in its founding principles, supports transparency and accountability. Such a refusal undermines the Bank’s professional responsibility, reinforcing its credibility as a reliable financial institution and sacrificing its public trust. It is a systemic violation of principles of objectivity and accountability, highlighting a failure to meet the basic norms of professional conduct. This is a grave disciplinary offense that undermines any positive reputation the Bank might hold, and it calls for immediate action from the public to restore trust in the institution.
