Adeleke accuses Osun CP, Wole Oke of promoting false murder attempt

The political landscape in Osun State is currently mired in a deepening controversy, as the Imole Campaign Council has leveled serious allegations against the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, and the Director-General of the APC Campaign Organisation, Hon. Wole Oke. At the heart of the tension is a high-stakes dispute over an alleged assassination attempt on Hon. Oke, a claim that the Imole Campaign Council now insists is a calculated piece of political theater. What began as a standard police report concerning the arrest of three suspects has spiraled into a broader debate about the integrity of law enforcement and the weaponization of state institutions for partisan gain.

The urgency of this confrontation reached a boiling point on Sunday when Pelumi Olajengbesi, the spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, addressed the media in Osogbo to challenge the official police narrative. Olajengbesi argued that newly surfaced video evidence—which purportedly contains the actual confessions of the suspects in police custody—stands in direct contradiction to the public statements issued by the Osun State Police Command. According to the Council, these revelations are not merely administrative errors but are evidence of a deliberate, malicious effort to frame leaders of the Accord Party for crimes they did not commit, using the police as a shield for political maneuvering.

A central point of contention is the transparency of the investigation currently being spearheaded by Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan. Olajengbesi pointedly questioned why the police felt comfortable announcing to the public that influential figures were linked to an assassination plot while simultaneously refusing to release the official, full-length confessional statements. By withholding these documents, the Council argues that the police have compromised their own neutrality. The implication is clear: if the police were genuinely committed to justice, they would welcome public scrutiny. Instead, their “selective disclosure” has ignited widespread suspicion that the investigation is being managed to smear political opponents rather than to uncover the truth.

The atmosphere of distrust is fueled by the fear that state security apparatuses are being repurposed as tools for political warfare. The Imole Campaign Council warned that unless the complete, unedited records of the investigation are made public, the populace has every right to conclude that the Osun State Police Command has effectively become an extension of a political party. This is a dangerous precedent in any democracy, as it erodes the public’s faith in the impartiality of law enforcement. For the Council, this is not just about a specific incident; it is about protecting the sanctity of the electoral process from those who would see it corrupted by false accusations and state-sponsored intimidation.

In response to these grave concerns, the Council has issued a formal appeal to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olatunji Disu, and the Police Service Commission. They are calling for an immediate, independent review of the entire investigative process, insisting that any officer found to have manipulated evidence or colluded with political actors must be held accountable. The Council is positioning itself as a defender of “issue-based politics,” emphasizing that they will continue to push back against any attempt to use the power of the state to suppress their movement or discredit their leadership. They maintain that the emergence of the suspect’s real confession is only the beginning of the truth coming to light.

Ultimately, the standoff in Osun State serves as a sobering reminder of the fragile state of institutional integrity during election cycles. By bringing these issues to the light of day, the Imole Campaign Council is challenging the authorities to prove that they are committed to justice rather than partisan advantage. As the investigation remains under a cloud of suspicion, the public is left waiting for a resolution that moves beyond political accusation and addresses the core demand: accountability. Until the police can demonstrate through transparency that their actions are free from bias, the integrity of the state’s political discourse will remain under a dark, heavy shadow.
