India Pakistan conflict: Pak fires missiles by night, fake videos by day in coordinated social media war

Even as drones, missiles, and ceasefire violations rain down along the western border, Pakistan has turned to its most insidious weapon: misinformation. In the wake of India’s precision strikes under Operation Sindoor, what followed wasn’t just military retaliation — it was a digital smear campaign by several pro-Pakistan social media handles, carefully orchestrated to twist the truth and weaponise public opinion.

From shadowy social media accounts to verified handles of Pakistani politicians, the disinformation machine has been working overtime. Fabricated videos, manipulated satellite images, and outright falsehoods are being churned out and amplified — not just to confuse, but to cover up Islamabad’s own escalations.

This article breaks down Pakistan’s claims and debunks the disinformation circulating online.

OLD IMAGE, NEW CLAIM

A widely shared image claimed that multiple explosions had occurred at the Jammu Air Force Base.

However, PIB Fact Check clarified that the image in question is not recent nor from India. It is from the Kabul Airport bombing in August 2021 and is being falsely linked to current events to stoke panic.

WAS GUJARAT PORT ATTACKED?

Another video circulated online purported to show an attack on the Hazira Port in Gujarat. On verification, it was found to be footage of an oil tanker explosion from July 7, 2021.

The video has no connection to Gujarat or any current military action and is being shared with misleading intent.

FAKE DRONE STRIKE CLAIM

A video allegedly showing a drone attack in Jalandhar has also gone viral.

PIB Fact Check confirmed that the clip actually depicts a farm fire, with a visible timestamp of 7.39 pm, predating the reported drone activity. The footage is being misrepresented to manufacture an alarm.

STAGED VIDEO, FAKE BATTALION NAME

One of the more sophisticated fakes includes a staged video circulated by Pakistani handles, claiming that a Pakistani attack had destroyed an Indian Army post, supposedly run by the “20 Raj Battalion.”

PIB Fact Check debunked this as entirely fabricated. No such unit exists in the Indian Army, and the video itself is orchestrated. Authorities have flagged this as part of a calculated effort to manipulate public sentiment.

FAKE PAKISTAN, FAKE STRIKE

A particularly alarming claim suggested that Pakistan had launched a missile strike on India.

The video used to support this claim was quickly traced back to the Beirut port explosion in Lebanon from 2020. There is no evidence of a missile strike, and the footage has been repurposed to fuel cross-border propaganda.

INDIA-PAK CONFLICT

In another major escalation, Pakistan’s armed forces launched a series of drone and munition-based attacks across the entire western border during the night of May 8-9. The Indian Army “effectively repulsed” the assault, officials said, even as Pakistani troops carried out “numerous ceasefire violations” along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Indian response, executed through both kinetic and non-kinetic means, was in line with established standard operating procedures (SOPs). There were no casualties or material damage reported from the Indian side.
