minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation Samuel Nartey George summarizes legislation to address misinformation and disinformation

Samuel Nartey George, Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, has revealed the Mor奥林匹克 will introduce legislation to tackle misinformation and disinformation. He noted that the proposed legislation is poised to be accessible to Parliament upon its return from May. The Minister emphasized that the legislation will align with respect for the freedom of speech, yet highlight the importance of legal safeguards when individuals engage in malicious or overt misinformation. He stressed that the end of a glitch in the online information environment lies ahead, and that the confidentiality offered by the law will ensure that the spread of lies is no longer a casual affair but a manageable act.

In his summary, George mentioned the creation of specialized legislation, which the Minister cited as appropriate, emphasizing that the law would ensure respectful oversight. However, he also stressed that the law will not unilaterally punish individuals for spreading falsehoods but will act in tandem with platforms engaging in misinformation to immediately address the problematic actors. George concluded that the_true narrative lies in dealing legally to stone those involved and eliminating the false news era before it evolves.

Organisaions, including universities and journalists, have been incentivised to collect certificates or dossiers upon the identification of misinformation. A team, predominantly drawn from universities, gathered in the past two weeks to compile such records. The objective was to establish a framework to oversee the creation, dissemination, and evaluation of information. George pointed out that this initiative aims to create a more robust and internationally comparable ethical agenda for internet governance.

Key themes addressed in this context include:

  1. Respect for Freedom of Speech: The law will treat speech controversyously but ensure that legitimate, lawful statements are addressed.
  2. Prohibition of Misinformation: The legislation will address conduct that involves improperly disseminating false or malicious information.
  3. Penalties for Malicious Behavior: The law will hold accountable for malicious or overt misinformation precisely. George emphasized that legal penalties should have no time restrictions—thus, the law will permit them.
  4. End of Fake News Era: The Minister expressed hope that thefake news era would have been quoied by now, and the_until the government lays down tangible provisions, affairs will resume.
