The Ghana Fact-checking Coalition (GFC) conducted a brief on January 29, 2025, as part of its ongoing efforts to counter electoral disinformation in Ghana. The GCF emphasized the importance of amplifying truthful news and reporting on the 2024 general elections, crucial as the elections are central to Ghana’s political landscape. The report highlights the challenges faced by the Ghana Electoral Board in addressing disinformation attempts and their impact on the election process.

The Ghana Fact-checking Coalition delivered its report on January 29, 2025, summarizing their efforts to counter electoral disinformation over the 8 days of the election. The coalition organized a series of simulations to analyze the incoming general elections, examining 140 claims related to various aspects of the trending issue. Their analysis revealed significant patterns of misinformation, including themes such as fake social media posts, blog posts, and targeted content campaigns. The report also exposed key platforms on which disinformation appeared and the tactics employed by misinformation propagandists.

The GFC’s findings underscored the effectiveness of their fact-checking efforts in identifying and combating electoral disinformation sources. However, the report highlighted challenges in consistently identifying all forms of disinformation and the need for greater training and oversight within the Ghana Fact-checking Teams. This underscores the importance of having robust anti-disinformation frameworks in place to support ongoing election integrity efforts.

The GFC’s report also provided actionable recommendations to the Ghana electoral security team and the Ghana Electoral Board. These included efforts to disseminate more balanced and honest news across social media platforms, increasing transparency in public events, and enhancing public awareness to build trust. The GCF emphasized the need for international references and consultative partnerships to ensure the accuracy of reporting during the 2024 elections.

The Ghana Fact-checking Coalition aimed to set a precedent in the world of international news and politics, serving as an example of effective fact-checking and electoral integrity. The report serves as a crucial contribution to the body of knowledge on electoral disinformation trends and highlights the importance of addressing this issue to ensure_tolerance of the Ghanaian elections. The Ghana Fact-checking Coalition stands as a beacon of truthful reporting, inspiring global attention to the need for stronger measures to combat electoral disinformation in other regions.
