Coimisiún na Meán (Cnam), Ireland’s broadcasting and media regulator, is taking a proactive stance against misinformation and disinformation. In a significant move, they’ve allocated over €268,000 to three vital projects aimed at improving media literacy and combating false information. This isn’t just a one-off effort; it’s part of Cnam’s ongoing commitment to ensuring a more informed public.
The recipients of this crucial funding are prominent organizations known for their expertise in these areas. DCU FuJo, in collaboration with EDMO Ireland, is one of the beneficiaries. They’re at the forefront of researching and addressing disinformation, making their involvement particularly impactful. The Local Government Management Agency (LGMA), with its reach into local communities, is also on board, recognizing the importance of equipping citizens at the grassroots level with media literacy skills. Lastly, the ESRI, a leading research institute, brings its robust analytical capabilities to the table, further strengthening the collective effort. Together, these three organizations form a powerful alliance dedicated to fostering a more discerning and resilient media landscape in Ireland.
