The training course, “Summarizing and Humanizing,” aimed to equip young people in Bunia, specifically the Lembabo neighborhood in Ituri, with skills to combat misinformation and promote social cohesion. Organized by Diangenda Public School in collaboration with MONUSCO, the initiative featured 18 young women, including 18 women, who learned how to identify dubious content, verify sources, and adopt a critical stance before sharing any information. These young people were part of a series of “Capacity-Building Workshops” designed to foster greater understanding and engagement among the community, addressing the pervasive issue of disinformation that undermines social cohesion.

The training emphasized the importance of digital literacy and critical thinking, urging participants to stay informed and responsible by recognizing the risks associated with misinformation. By engaging in a structured approach, the young participants were encouraged to share information with at least ten individuals in their immediate circle, facilitating a chain of initiative that amplify their message within Bunia’s neighborhoods. This approach was a step towards creating a more educated and informed society.

Em.CONTACTING THE WORKSHOP BOOSTED PEACE, and the follow-up sessions highlighted the role of young women in campaigns of peace and prosperity. With this initiative, young mothers were empowered to be vigilant about sharing unverified information, recognizing the potential consequences this could entail. “Today’s youth is particularly exposed to manipulation,” commented Emmanuel Unen Can, coordinator of the UJERCO training program. His emphasis underscored the urgency of addressing disinformation and fostering a culture of truth and responsibility.

The broader initiative involving MONUSCO and other groups laid the groundwork for a larger push to combat misinformation and promote social cohesion. attendees includingClub presidents and vice presidents of the Union of Young People Engaged for Reconstruction of Congo (UJERCO) highlighted the significance of this initiative. “This campaign helps us convey a message of peace, truth, and better,” Imran President of UJERCO said. The grounding of these actions meant the promotion of content that could escalate violence, social fractures, and distrust toward institutions was addressed with a concrete commitment.

By combining personal accountability with community engagement, the training workshop in Bunia became a pivotal step in a larger movement toward a more cooperation-oriented society. Young people, realized as crucial relays in the fight against the spread of false information, were not only enhancing their own resilience but also contributing to the broader fight against misinformation that threatens social stability and peace. This initiative serves as a stepping stone toward a future where truth, responsibility, and collective action are prioritized.
