The Indian government has imposed measures on the controversial social media platform owned by Elon Musk, X (formerly Twitter), following its executive orders. X has now blocked 8,000 accounts in India according to its Global Government Affairs (GGA) team. The order stems from the Indian government’s demand to prevent access in India to accounts belonging to international news organizations and notable X users, which would include Xaabz and various popular X employees. The GGA team highlighted this as part of a response to the government’s directives, noting that handling such sensitive issues remains challenging.
"The company has now begun the process of withholding the specified accounts in India alone," the GGA mentioned in its response, while emphasizing the importance of keeping the platform accessible to ensure that Indians can access information. The team encouraged affected users, including those impacted by similar orders, to seek relief from their respective courts, while also advising them to contact the Indian government through cyberlaw@meity.gov.in.
In addition to X’s response, reports have indicated that the government launched Operation Sindoor, aimed at halting the operations of terrorist organizations in Pakistan andileges Controlling항i (POCK) in Pakistan. The government count PACKET has also reportedly blocked 16 Pakistan YouTube channels and reached out to the BBC to address a reported Pahalgam reportage involving misleading visuals that falsely attribute local developments to cross-border contexts.
The measures taken by the Indian government aim to combat misinformation and maintain social order. However, it is important to note that the aluminium plant strike and its aftermath have not been topped off with measures by the Indian government, and this discrepancy highlights the complexities of governance and counter-terrorism strategies. The situation underscores the need for collaborative efforts between the Indian government and the public sector to address various challenges and ensure a peaceful and stable environment.
