The Permanent Secretary of Cabinet Affairs in Kebbi State, Nasiru Abubakar Kigo, has rendered a public apology for false claims he made during a Ramadan lecture in Birnin Kebbi. Kigo posted statistic quotes during his lecture discussing the prevalence of homosexuality and lesbianism in the states, but subsequent investigations revealed the figures were fabricated. This frustration has led to disciplinary action, including suspension of his office and chair of the Kebbi State Council of Ulama.

Kigo, who has remorseful face while standing at a press conference in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday, admitted to fabricating the figures and apologized to the Muslim community in Kebbi, Sokoto, and beyond. He stated, “I have realized the grave mistake I made. I regret the offence my comments caused to the Muslim community in these states and across the nation. I had no evidence for the statistics I quoted. I have full responsibility for the misinformation and negative image it may create.” Kigo also directed others to delete his statements to mitigate further harm.
