Russia is once again raising its influence on the 250,000 Moldovan diaspora, which is expected to amplify their efforts to sway the parliamentary elections in September 2028. According to eyewitnesses, the officials are noticing a sharp increase in the dissemination of disinformation and disvince, targeting widespread distrust in the political order in Moldova. The so-called Matryoshkaattack, centered around a sophisticated network known as Matryoshka…………………………., aims to create false narratives and undermine institutional trust by appealing to potential voters.

Russia’s strategy, which was hinted at in previous elections, involves creating fake media outlets with disreputable content, using these to attract voters who would otherwise feel the need to stay home or support false political rhetoric. According to Russian foreign policy advisor Stanislaw Sekrieru, the Moldovan National Security Advisor, the campaign is designed to demobilize democratic voters. Matryoshka initiatives operate by exploiting doubts among persuaded citizens to join the disinformation effort, which is then manipulated to support a disinformationally loro campaign which seeks to weaken Moldova’s democratic institutions and foster confusion outside the country.
